‘A Guy, A Girl and A Bottle’ Podcast Compared to Movie ‘Sideways’

Friday, February 17th, 2006

The 2004 film, Sideways, inspired wine drinkers the world over to mimic snooty remarks like, “No, if anyone orders Merlot, I’m leaving. I am NOT drinking any fucking Merlot!” I went to see this movie. I sat in the theater. And while others chuckled throughout the entire 124 minutes, the only thing I realized….I was in the dark. Much like Miles and Jack (of Sideways), Joe and Lori (of A Guy, A Girl and A Bottle Podcast) embark on adventures throughout California’s wine country.

All hail the Podfather : Sydney Morning Herald

Friday, February 3rd, 2006

When I first heard about podcasting I did some initial research about what it was, how to get it and who was doing it. I got the drift that it was radio via the internet. So what? I could already do that. Podcasting sounded so complicated and so geeky I didn’t even bother to listen to a single show. Then I discovered it was “audio blogging”.

Oh great, now I can not only read but also actually hear all about some guy’s family road trip to Florida or why some Republican thinks George Dubya is the next Messiah and a Democrat believes him to be the Devil incarnate.

But then I realised the flip side to that quarter has a platypus on it – anybody can make a podcast.

SF’s podcasters build on assorted quirks, intrepid ideas, and a will to get naked.

MIKE BUTLER JUST got a new job, and he can’t shut up about it, on or off the air. Butler, a house painter and local musician (Exodus, American Heartbreak), was understandably nervous about closing down his business, Michael Butler Painting, which he founded in the late 1970s, and starting work at PodShow (www.podshow.com). In early November he began his first-ever office job as one of the newest employees of the company, which is owned by former MTV VJ Adam Curry and longtime business partner Ron Bloom.
