Critically Acclaimed Filmmaker Casts MTV Talent to Launch the Hyphy Show on PodShow

Podshow thinks outside the iPod : Marketwatch.com

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Adam Curry’s Podshow Inc. is Webcasting. Curry and Podshow staffers, while in London for the Digital Music Awards, decided to do a streaming Webcast of singers, actors, and musicians auditioning to be included in the company’s roster of artists. (Podshow calls them “Unditions,” in its effort to position itself as un-like old music companies and broadcasters.)

The Webcast is an unexpected experiment by Podshow, but not out of character for Curry. There’s nothing to lose, and publicity to be won. On his blog at Curry.com, Curry says all is going well: “This is amazing, never expected it to work so well, especially the number of U.K. viewers.”
Curry also talks about it in his podcast. Podshow’s CEO, Ron Bloom, said the excitement over podcasting, audio and video, has made it easy to overlook what he calls “live media.” Bloom says digital recording technology, slick production tools and sophisticated editing skills have made live programming “for the most part pre-programmed, pre-recorded content that has been sanitized.” Podshow’s Webcast, by comparison, has “no editing, no filtering, just live.” Think of it this Webcast as taking you behind the scenes of American Idol.

Bloom’s right. “Live” has lost its meaning in media. You know you’re hearing or seeing the best takes. The only problem is that “live” can also be tedious. If you’ve got a lot of time, more noise than signal’s OK.

PodShow Puts the Life Back in Live With The London Live Channel

LONDON England (October 3, 2006) – The London Live channel was unleashed today on BTPodShow.com and PodShow.com, featuring a live and un-cut debut of “Have You Got It?” and exclusive live event coverage of the 2006 Digital Music Awards from London’s Roundhouse in Camden.

The debut of “Have You Got It?”, the first ever live and uncut marathon “UnDition”, with presenter, Olivia Lee providing that moment of fame… or shame to some great, original and wacky talent from all around the UK. Hundreds of people lined up around London’s Roundhouse in Camden today for the chance to prove that they’ve “got it”.

Also on the London Live Channel today is live coverage of the BT Digital Music Awards showcasing up-and-coming talent and cutting-edge music from the UK music scene. Coverage includes live video from the event, letting viewers follow hosts and presenters as the action moves from the red carpet to back stage with interviews with top international celebrities, cool bands, and DJs. The Show’s team of three Presenters will also interview some of the craziest celebs in the UK as they drop in for a chat and as our camera crews catch them off guard around the event.

“The overwhelming reaction to London Live surprised us. With no promotion whatsoever, viewers piling up online to watch the live event coverage began to overload our servers and we’ve had to add more capacity,” says Ron Bloom, PodShow CEO and Co Founder. “PodShow believes that live content has a place in the entertainment mix and this is just the first step in our plan to add live programming to our network.”
